Sabbath: the once-weekly practice that changed everything

Sabbath: a day of rest, healing, connection.

Historically, the Sabbath was a religious command as a day of rest.

In today’s time, it’s a growing practice giving everyday people a rhythm for rest and healing.

For me, Sabbath has been a life-giving practice where our family sets aside a day from work and normal routines. What do we do? Walk, rest, spend time with others, and spend time with God.

It might sound CRAZY but it has been life-changing for us. I have learned I cannot do it all—instead, I have to practice setting it all down.

How do I Sabbath?

Glad you asked! Here's my advice...

  1. Ditch the screens. Sundays are sacred, free from the digital distractions that consume our weekdays.

  2. Shop in advance. Preparation is key. Tackle groceries ahead of time.

  3. Walk past the laundry pile. The chores can wait. I repeat, THE CHORES CAN WAIT!

  4. Hit the pavement. One of the pillars of our Sabbath routine is taking intentional walks. They’re an opportunity for deep conversation.

  5. Stay committed until everyone is hooked. Consistency is key. Over time this will become a routine that the whole family looks forward to.

I encourage you to adopt this practice soon—it will change your life and, believe it or not, it will give you even more capacity on your work days.

with big love,

Laura
